Neurological Diseases and Treatments

Accurate diagnosis and an individualised approach are essential in treating neurological diseases. Neuroimmunological diseases — Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in particular — migraine and other headaches, Alzheimer’s disease, forgetfulness, dizziness and other neurological conditions are evaluated in the light of current scientific evidence, and an individual treatment plan is created for every patient.

The aim is not only to relieve symptoms but to minimise the long-term effects of the disease and to protect and improve quality of life.

A Personalised Approach to Neurological Treatment

Most neurological diseases require long-term follow-up. A treatment plan is therefore more than a prescription written at the first visit: the patient’s age, other conditions, current medications, work and family life and plans such as pregnancy are all taken into account. The effectiveness of treatment and possible side effects are monitored at regular check-ups, and the plan is updated when needed.

Prof. Dr. Emin Özcan provides diagnosis and treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neuroimmunological diseases, as well as migraine and chronic headache, epilepsy, dizziness and vertigo, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, peripheral nerve diseases and sleep disorders. How Does Treatment Work?

  1. Detailed history and neurological examination: The onset, course and triggers of your symptoms are explored in detail and a thorough neurological examination is performed.
  2. Review of tests: MRI, EEG, EMG and blood tests are requested when needed, and previous tests are reviewed as well.
  3. Personalised treatment plan: Depending on the diagnosis, medication, lifestyle changes and, when needed, complementary approaches such as physiotherapy or psychological support are planned.
  4. Regular follow-up: Response to treatment and possible side effects are monitored at follow-up visits, and the plan is updated according to the course of the disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I see a neurologist?

It is advisable to see a neurologist for frequent or changing headaches, dizziness, numbness or weakness, visual disturbances, forgetfulness, tremor, seizures or loss of consciousness. With stroke symptoms such as sudden speech difficulty, facial drooping or weakness in an arm or leg, go to the emergency department without delay.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Reports and images of previous MRI, CT, EEG, EMG and blood tests, a list of your medications and any previous discharge summaries make the evaluation easier.

Can neurological diseases be cured completely?

It depends on the type of disease. Some conditions resolve completely with appropriate treatment, while in chronic diseases such as MS, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s the aim is to slow progression, control relapses and symptoms and preserve quality of life.

Can I book a second-opinion appointment?

Yes. Particularly for diseases needing long-term treatment such as MS, you can book a second-opinion appointment to have your diagnosis and current treatment re-evaluated. See Second Opinion in MS for details.
